Concept: identifying short and long vowel sounds in words
Game Type: board game for 2-4 players
Includes: game board, 21 word cards and 6 action cards, rules, instructions, and a bonus skill sheet
Learning to identify vowel sounds in words is one of the stepping stones for young readers. Examples of short vowel sounds are like a in cat, e in bed, and o in pot. Long vowel sounds are sounds that sound like the name of the letter like a in cake, e in seed, and o in code. Reindeer Feed gives children the chance to practice identifying both short and long vowel sounds.
The object of the game is to be the player to feed their reindeer the most cards. Players must correctly identify whether a word has a long or short vowel sound before feeding it to their reindeer. There are also six action cards that tell players they have lost a turn or get an extra piece of hay. All of the cards are labeled so if they get misplaced you can instantly return them to their home.
As an extra bonus, with Reindeer Feed you also receive a special skill sheet to give your student additional practice with short vowel and long vowel words! Also included are directions for turning this game into a file folder game and a template for printing a folder label. This way it's easy to keep your games organized.
After downloading and printing the file, it will be quick and easy to prepare this game for use. You may print as many sets as your family or class requires, but please don’t make copies to share with others. Laminating your game will help it last longer.
Keep in mind that each printer is different and the colors your printer uses may vary slightly from what you see on our photos or the files.
